A simple and festive recipe for chocolate-covered strawberries decorated in red, white, and blue, perfect for patriotic celebrations like the 4th of July.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 grams) fresh strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) white chocolate or white candy melts
  • 4 ounces (115 grams) red candy melts or red colored chocolate
  • 4 ounces (115 grams) blue candy melts or blue colored chocolate
  • Red, white, and blue decorative sprinkles or edible glitter
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening to smooth chocolate melting

Instructions

  1. Gently rinse 1 pound (450 grams) of fresh strawberries and pat them completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Place 8 ounces (225 grams) of white chocolate chips or candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and glossy. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil if the chocolate feels too thick.
  3. Holding each strawberry by the stem or toothpick, dip it into the white chocolate, swirling to coat about two-thirds of the berry. Let excess chocolate drip off, then place it on parchment-lined baking sheet. Chill in the fridge for about 10 minutes to set the base layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, melt 4 ounces (115 grams) of red candy melts or colored chocolate using the same microwave method. Once smooth, transfer to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny snip for drizzling.
  5. Lightly drizzle red chocolate over the white-coated strawberries in sweeping, uneven lines to mimic the stripes of a flag. Return to the fridge for 5 minutes to set.
  6. Repeat melting process with 4 ounces (115 grams) of blue candy melts. Drizzle or dip the tops of some strawberries for that blue “star” effect. Sprinkle blue edible glitter or nonpareils for extra sparkle.
  7. While the last layer is still wet, sprinkle red, white, and blue decorations to create festive texture and color contrast.
  8. Let all strawberries chill in the fridge for 15–20 minutes or until fully set.
  9. Arrange on a festive platter and enjoy! Best eaten within 24 hours for freshest texture.

Notes

Pat strawberries completely dry to prevent chocolate from seizing or sliding off. Melt chocolate in short bursts to avoid burning. Work in batches to keep chocolate smooth. Store strawberries in a single layer in the fridge and consume within 24 hours for best texture. To soften hardened chocolate, let strawberries sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving.
