Ingredients

  • Flour tortillas (large size, soft and pliable)
  • Spinach or sun-dried tomato wraps (optional for color and flavor)
  • Classic cream cheese, softened (Philadelphia preferred)
  • Fresh herbs (chives, dill, parsley), finely chopped
  • Garlic powder or roasted garlic
  • Smoked paprika or cayenne pepper
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Lemon zest and juice
  • Sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped
  • Crumbled cooked bacon or finely chopped ham (optional)
  • Finely diced cucumber, red pepper, or grated carrot
  • Capers or olives, chopped
  • Chopped nuts (toasted walnuts or pecans, optional)
  • Baby spinach leaves or arugula
  • Thinly sliced cucumber, carrots, bell peppers
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (basil, dill, parsley)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Bases (10-15 minutes): In separate small bowls, soften your cream cheese. Mix in the flavor additions for each variation—herbs, spices, honey, lemon zest, or chopped veggies. Stir until well combined but still spreadable.
  2. Lay Out Tortillas (2 minutes): Place each tortilla flat on your cutting board. If using colored or flavored wraps, alternate for visual appeal.
  3. Spread Cream Cheese (5 minutes): Evenly spread one of the prepared cream cheese mixtures onto each tortilla, leaving about a ½-inch border around the edges to avoid overflow when rolling.
  4. Add Fresh Veggies and Garnishes (5 minutes): Layer thin slices of cucumber, carrot, spinach, or any fresh veggies over the cream cheese. Use a single layer to avoid overloading.
  5. Roll the Tortillas (3 minutes): Starting from one edge, carefully roll each tortilla up tightly but gently, using plastic wrap underneath to help keep it snug if needed.
  6. Chill for Firmness (at least 30 minutes): Wrap the rolled tortillas tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate to ensure clean slicing and prevent falling apart.
  7. Slice into Pinwheels (5 minutes): Using a sharp knife, slice the chilled rolls into 1-inch thick pieces. Arrange them on your serving board in a colorful, inviting pattern.
  8. Garnish and Serve (2 minutes): Scatter fresh herb sprigs and cherry tomato halves around the pinwheels. Add bowls of extra cream cheese or dipping sauces if desired.

Notes

Warm tortillas briefly (5-10 seconds) in the microwave to make spreading easier. Chill rolled tortillas for at least 30 minutes before slicing to ensure clean edges. Use a sharp serrated knife and wipe clean between cuts to prevent sticking. For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute cream cheese and wraps accordingly.
