A simple and reliable method to cook fluffy jasmine rice with perfectly separate grains, ideal as a versatile side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup jasmine rice (200 grams)
  • 1 1/4 cups water (300 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon unsalted butter or a splash of olive oil

Instructions

  1. Measure 1 cup (200 grams) of jasmine rice and place it in a medium saucepan. Do not rinse the rice.
  2. Add 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) of water and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Optionally add 1 teaspoon of butter or a splash of olive oil.
  3. Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat immediately.
  4. Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and simmer gently on the lowest heat setting for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  5. Turn off the heat and keep the lid on. Let the rice rest for 10 minutes to finish cooking.
  6. Remove the lid and gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains before serving.

Notes

Do not rinse the rice to preserve natural starch for fluffiness. Avoid lifting the lid or stirring during cooking to prevent sticky rice. Use a heavy-bottomed pan if possible to prevent scorching. Let the rice rest off heat to finish cooking evenly. If water remains after resting, drain carefully before fluffing.
