Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef, 80/20 blend
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 6 brioche or classic sesame seed buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • Cheddar cheese slices
  • Swiss cheese slices
  • American cheese slices
  • Leafy lettuce (romaine or green leaf), washed and dried
  • Tomatoes, sliced thick
  • Red onions, thinly sliced
  • Pickle slices (dill or bread and butter)
  • Avocado slices or guacamole (optional)
  • Bacon strips, cooked crisp (optional)
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Spicy aioli (mayo mixed with sriracha)
  • BBQ sauce (smoky or sweet)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and divide into 6 equal portions. Shape each into a 3/4 inch thick patty with a small indentation in the center. (10 minutes)
  2. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F). Clean and lightly oil grates. (5 minutes)
  3. Grill patties for 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip carefully and add cheese slices on top. Grill another 3-4 minutes until medium doneness and internal temperature reaches 160°F. (10 minutes)
  4. Spread softened butter on buns and toast cut-side down on grill for 1-2 minutes until golden and crispy. (3 minutes)
  5. Arrange toasted buns, grilled patties, cheeses, toppings, and condiments buffet-style for assembly. (5 minutes)
  6. Build your burger with preferred toppings and sauces. (Ongoing)

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to keep burgers tender. Make a thumb indentation in patties to prevent puffing. Flip burgers only once. Add cheese after flipping to melt perfectly. Toast buns with butter to prevent sogginess. Keep cooked patties warm under foil if assembling multiple burgers. For gluten-free, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Avoid pressing patties while cooking to retain juices.
