A simple and reliable slow cooker ham recipe with a tender texture and a sweet honey glaze, perfect for holiday gatherings and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • Bone-in ham (about 5-7 pounds), pre-cooked, preferably spiral-cut
  • Honey (½ cup)
  • Brown sugar (½ cup, packed)
  • Dijon mustard (2 tablespoons)
  • Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon)
  • Ground cinnamon (¼ teaspoon)
  • Ground cloves (a pinch, optional)
  • Water (½ cup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves if using. Set aside.
  2. Place the ham in the slow cooker: Position the bone-in, pre-cooked ham flat side down in the slow cooker insert. Pour ½ cup of water into the bottom to keep moisture in during cooking.
  3. Apply initial glaze coat: Using a basting brush, spread about half of the honey glaze over the surface of the ham, coating all visible areas.
  4. Cook low and slow: Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 hours.
  5. Glaze refresh: After 4 hours, remove the lid and baste the ham with the remaining glaze.
  6. Continue cooking: Replace the lid and cook for an additional 1 hour on LOW. Add a splash of water if the slow cooker looks dry.
  7. Check for doneness: The ham should be heated throughout and tender when pierced with a fork. The glaze should be thick and glossy.
  8. Rest and serve: Transfer the ham to a platter and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Add ½ cup water to the slow cooker to keep the ham moist. Apply glaze in two layers to avoid burning. Let the ham rest 10 minutes before slicing. For whole hams, score the surface in a diamond pattern before glazing. Keep extra glaze handy to brush on slices before serving. Can substitute honey with maple syrup or add cayenne for spice. Oven method: bake at 325°F for 15 minutes per pound, glazing every 20 minutes.
