These crispy, buttery, golden mummy hot dog crescent rolls are the perfect Halloween snack. Quick to make with simple ingredients, they’re a crowd-pleaser that disappears before the costume parade even starts.

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Mustard or ketchup for the eyes
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean work surface. If using perforated triangles, press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
  3. Cut the dough into strips using a sharp knife or pizza cutter. Cut the rectangle into 8 long strips, about 1 inch wide each.
  4. Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel to help the dough stick better.
  5. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a hot dog at an angle, leaving a small gap at the top for the ‘face.’ Leave about 1/2 inch of the hot dog exposed at the top.
  6. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the garlic powder (if using). Brush this mixture generously over each mummy.
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed. The hot dogs should be heated through.
  9. Let them cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheet.
  10. Dip a toothpick into mustard or ketchup and make two tiny dots on the exposed hot dog at the top for eyes.

Notes

For best results, use refrigerated crescent dough (not frozen). Don’t overwrap the hot dogs – leave gaps for the mummy look. The butter wash is essential for golden color. Start checking at 10 minutes to prevent burning. Let rest 2-3 minutes before adding eyes. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated. Freeze unbaked mummies for up to 3 months.
