A quick and elegant appetizer featuring creamy brie wrapped in flaky puff pastry with sweet fig jam and crunchy toasted walnuts. Perfect for easy entertaining and impressing guests.

  • 1 (8-ounce) wheel of creamy triple-cream brie cheese
  • 1 sheet of store-bought frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup fig jam (or apricot/raspberry preserves as substitutes)
  • 1/4 cup (about 1 ounce) walnuts, roughly chopped and lightly toasted
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: pinch of freshly ground black pepper or a few fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Toast the walnuts on the baking sheet for 5-7 minutes until fragrant, stirring halfway. Remove and let cool.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to a roughly 12×12 inch square. Trim edges if needed.
  4. Place the whole brie wheel in the center of the pastry. Spread 1/4 cup fig jam on top of the brie, then sprinkle the toasted walnuts evenly over the jam. Add black pepper or thyme if using.
  5. Fold the puff pastry up and over the brie, sealing all edges and tucking any excess underneath.
  6. Brush the entire wrapped brie with the beaten egg to get a glossy, golden finish.
  7. Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Let the baked brie rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting to allow the cheese to set slightly.

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use to ensure flakiness. Toast walnuts to enhance flavor and crunch. Use egg wash to achieve a golden, shiny crust. Rest the baked brie before slicing to prevent cheese from spilling out. Tent with foil if pastry browns too quickly.
