A warm, crusty bread bowl filled with creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip, topped with melted cheese. This all-in-one appetizer is perfect for game day and parties, combining tender chicken, cream cheese, ranch, and buffalo sauce in an edible bowl.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded (about 1 rotisserie chicken)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, plus 1/4 cup for topping
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
  • 1 large round sourdough or artisan bread loaf (about 1 lb)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Soften cream cheese if needed.
  2. Cut a circle off the top of the bread loaf, about 2-3 inches from the edge. Set top aside. Gently hollow out the inside of the loaf, leaving a 1-inch thick wall. Tear removed bread into bite-sized pieces for dipping.
  3. In a small bowl, mix melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture all over the inside of the hollowed bread bowl and the underside of the bread top.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, ranch dressing, and buffalo wing sauce. Beat until smooth.
  5. Fold in shredded chicken, 1 cup cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and sliced green onions until evenly distributed.
  6. Spoon the dip mixture into the prepared bread bowl. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Place filled bread bowl on a baking sheet. Add bread top to the sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until dip is bubbly and cheese is melted and golden.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes. Serve with toasted bread pieces, garnished with extra green onions and a drizzle of ranch or blue cheese dressing if desired.

Notes

For a crispier bread bowl, pre-bake the hollowed-out bowl for 5 minutes before filling. To make ahead, prepare dip filling up to 24 hours in advance and store in the fridge; add 5-10 minutes to baking time. Toast reserved bread pieces with olive oil, salt, and garlic powder for extra crunch.
