These savory chili cheese dog bites combine sizzling hot dogs, spicy chili, and gooey cheddar wrapped in puff pastry for a quick, crowd-pleasing snack perfect for game days and parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs, sliced into 1-inch bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup chili (canned or homemade, with or without beans)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)
  • Optional garnishes: chopped green onions, jalapeño slices, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Slice hot dogs into 1-inch bite-sized pieces.
  3. Unroll puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each sheet into roughly 2-inch squares, about 24 squares total.
  4. Place a hot dog piece in the center of each pastry square. Top with about a teaspoon of chili and sprinkle shredded cheddar over it.
  5. Add a small dollop of yellow mustard on top of the cheese.
  6. Fold the pastry over to create a packet and pinch edges firmly to seal, ensuring no filling leaks out.
  7. Place bites seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  8. Brush each bite with beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish.
  9. Optionally, brush melted butter over the tops for extra richness.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  12. Garnish with chopped green onions or jalapeños if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Keep puff pastry well chilled before cutting and filling to prevent sticking and leaking. Use about a teaspoon of chili and a sprinkle of cheese per bite to avoid soggy pastry. Rotate baking tray halfway for even browning. Let bites rest 5 minutes after baking to avoid burning from hot cheese. Store cooled bites in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat in oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes. Avoid microwaving to keep pastry crisp.
