easy brazilian caipirinha - featured image

A simple and authentic Brazilian cocktail made with fresh limes, sugar, and cachaça. Perfect for quick refreshment and capturing the spirit of a Brazilian summer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium fresh limes
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) cachaça
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: lime wedge or wheel for garnish
  • Optional: splash of sparkling water

Instructions

  1. Rinse 2 medium limes thoroughly under cool water. Cut each lime into 8 wedges (quarters, then halves).
  2. Place all lime wedges into an old-fashioned glass. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar evenly over the lime pieces.
  3. Using a muddler or spoon handle, gently press down on the lime and sugar to release juice and oils without pulverizing the rind.
  4. Pour in 2 ounces (60 ml) of cachaça over the muddled lime and sugar. Stir quickly to combine.
  5. Add enough ice cubes to fill the glass, about 4-6 medium-sized cubes.
  6. Stir gently once more to chill and blend everything. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge if desired.

Notes

Avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness. Use fresh limes for best flavor. If too sharp, add more sugar or a splash of sparkling water. Fresh cachaça brands like Leblon or Ypióca are recommended for authentic taste. Prepare fresh and serve immediately for best flavor.
