A rich and silky chocolate fondue perfect for romantic evenings or cozy nights in, made with high-quality chocolate, heavy cream, and a hint of vanilla and sea salt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ounces (170 grams) high-quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream, preferably fresh and cold
  • 1 tablespoon (15 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of your favorite liqueur (e.g., Grand Marnier or Bailey’s)
  • Dippers: fresh strawberries, banana slices, marshmallows, pretzels, pound cake cubes, apple wedges

Instructions

  1. Chop the chocolate finely into small, even pieces.
  2. Pour ½ cup heavy cream into a small saucepan and warm over medium-low heat until hot and steaming but not boiling (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let sit for 1-2 minutes to soften, then stir gently until smooth and glossy. If needed, return to very low heat briefly, stirring constantly.
  4. Stir in 1 tablespoon softened unsalted butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Add a pinch of sea salt and, if desired, stir in 1 tablespoon of liqueur.
  6. Transfer the warm fondue to a pre-warmed fondue pot or small heatproof bowl and keep warm using a tea light candle or electric warmer.
  7. Arrange dippers on a platter and enjoy immediately using fondue forks or skewers.

Notes

Use low heat to prevent scorching. Stir gently and promptly after adding chocolate to cream. Keep fondue warm but not hot to maintain smooth texture. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut milk and use dairy-free chocolate. Reheat gently with a splash of cream if fondue thickens.
